16 Nov Genre-bending brass band Dat Brass to perform sold out gig in Camden
Ten piece brass/hip hop band Dat Brass will headline Camden Assembly on 1st December.
This Autumn, the group have whipped up something special: dinner’s ready, and there’s a volatile blend of hip-hop, jazz and punk on the menu. Tuck in.
Though the ten gifted musicians that make up eclectic brass outfit Dat Brass come from a jazz background, it’s the bouncing beats and in-your-face attitude of old-school hip-hop that inspires them.
Their latest album ‘Dinner’s Ready’ is a culmination of their collective influences that features improvised solos, crunching distorted bass, and incisive lyricism – and of course, the raucous tones of trumpet, trombone, saxophone and sousaphone.
Inspired by KRS-One, Royce da 5’9’’ Mouse Outfit and Kendrick Lamar, ‘Dinner’s Ready’ is a hard-core hip-hop record through and through. Complex flows, incisive lyrics and off-kilter rhyme schemes are supported by that unmistakably riotous brass sound, combining to create something that speaks to hip-hop heads, jazz fans and party people alike.
