Loyalty to GB News Radio has increased significantly as average listening hours grew 17% to eclipse all competitors in news and current affairs broadcasting.

Average listening hours for GB News Radio are now nearly triple those at LBC News, 30% higher than at Times Radio and 20% more than at talkRADIO, according to official RAJAR data released today.

GB News Radio’s overall audience grew 4% to reach an average 319,000 people a week whose total listening hours were up by 23% in the first three months of this year compared to Q4 last year, a record for the station.

In total, GB News Radio recorded more than 2.6 million listening hours a week, meaning its audience tuned in for a huge average of 8.2 hours a week each.

This is 20% longer than listeners at talkRADIO (average 6.8 hours a week); 30% more than at Times Radio (6.3 hours), and 293% more than at LBC News (2.8 hours).

Women aged 45-54 emerged as the most loyal audience to GB News: in this age group average weekly listening hours increased by 247% from 5.8 hours a week to 20.1 hours, the highest of all groups tuning into the channel.

Women aged 25-34 also increased their average weekly listening hours from 1.7 hours to 6.7 hours, a growth of 294%, and women in the 35-44 age group were also strong, increasing their listening from 2 hours a week to an average 5.8 hours a week, a 190% rise.

Among men, the strongest growth was in those aged 55-64 who doubled their average weekly listening from 4.2 hours to 8.1 hours each.

In terms of overall audience growth, the strongest programmes were Breakfast with Eamonn and Isabel, which was up 45% to an average 28,000 listeners a week, and Bev Turner Today (now To The Point with her and Andrew Pierce) which was up 49%.

Chief Executive Officer Angelos Frangopoulos said: “These listening hours are impressive and show just how much GB News Radio is, quite literally, moving the industry dial.”

He added: “GB News is the only UK speech service with real audience traction on both television and radio.

“In coming weeks we’ll be announcing enhancements to GB News Radio to build on its audience reach and capitalise on these listening hours, which are the biggest in the news sector.”
