17 May Free workshop for drone enthusiasts to be held in Chelmsford
Specialist officers and staff from our Drone Unit are hosting a free workshop for drone enthusiasts to help them understand the dos and don’ts of flying unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV).
The three hour course, which is supported by UK airspace governing body, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), will be held at Essex Police Headquarters in Chelmsford on Sunday, June 2.
It will teach members of the public about drone legislation, pilot responsibilities and the drone code, as well as offering tips on how budding pilots can get the most from their drone.
Essex Police Drone Manager Perran Bonner said: “Anyone who flies a drone has a responsibility to make themselves familiar with the relevant legislation and operate their UAV within the boundaries of the law.
“We’re offering members of the public the opportunity to draw upon the knowledge of our drone experts and make themselves familiar with the laws which are in place around flying a drones.
“Ultimately, we want the people to enjoy flying their drones because we understand just how much fun they are, but it’s important that pilots do so in a safe and responsible way.”
The workshop, which will run between 10am and 1pm will consist of classroom based learning, demonstrations from our drone experts and the opportunity to speak with other drone enthusiasts.
Perran added: “Whilst there won’t be an opportunity to fly any drones on this occasion, we’ll be demonstrating the capabilities of some of the force’s drone equipment and explaining the ways we use drones to fight crime and protect the people of Essex.”
This is an ideal workshop for anyone who has a drone or is thinking about buying one.
It is hoped that there will be further workshops pending the interest and outcome of this one.
