Festive run raises funds for Basildon Mayor’s Charity Appeal Trust

12 Dec Festive run raises funds for Basildon Mayor’s Charity Appeal Trust

Basildon Council employees got into the Christmas spirit by running a five mile festive-themed run to raise funds for the Mayor’s Charity Appeal Trust.

The team put on their antlers to join the Southend Rudolph Run on Sunday 9 December in aid of the appeal, which is this year supporting St Luke’s Hospice and Cancer Research UK. They have so far raised more than £600 in sponsorship, with donations still flooding in.

Mayor of Basildon, Cllr David Dadds JP, was among the participants. He said: “I would like to thank everyone who showed wonderful commitment by turning out for the Rudolph Run this weekend. I am truly grateful for all the support I have received from the Mayor of Basildon’s Charity Appeal Staff Committee and the wider community.

“By establishing the Mayor’s Charity Appeal Trust we can bring the borough together in aid of good causes which make a real difference. It is a fantastic opportunity to get creative while raising money and awareness for charities which are close to many of our hearts.”

An application to formally register the Trust, which will be independent from the council, has been lodged with the Charity Commission. Its establishment was endorsed at Full Council last week to ensure fundraising has wider organisational focus and input.
