Family Organises Art Sale of Dad’s Works to Raise Funds for Prostate Cancer

16 May Family Organises Art Sale of Dad’s Works to Raise Funds for Prostate Cancer

A charity art sale and garden party is being organised to commemorate local artist, John Durham and raise funds for prostate cancer charities.

Celebrated artist, John Durham sadly passed away last year, after a long battle with prostate cancer. John’s son, Mark Durham is celebrating his father’s life by hosting a special garden party, where he will be selling artworks produced by his father to raise money for prostate cancer charities.

John Durham worked as a commercial artist for many years and exhibited his works in Green Park in London. He was well-known for his paintings of people waiting in line at soup kitchens in the 1950s and 60s, many of whom were war veterans struggling to adjust to civilian life. He sold his artwork to several collectors, tourists and celebrities in his lifetime, including rock ‘n’ roll pioneer and all-round entertainer, Tommy Steele.

Proud son Mark says: “It was hard watching dad suffer and ultimately lose his battle with prostate cancer. One in eight men will be diagnosed with this disease in their lifetime, and every year 11,500 men die from it. I want this event to celebrate my father’s life and passion for art, as well as raise much-needed funds for those suffering with the disease he battled for so many years.”

He continued: “Every penny raised at this event will go towards charities that carry out life-saving prostate cancer research, and if my father’s paintings raise funds to help find a cure for this terrible disease, then it will be a fitting legacy to a much-loved man.”

The garden party will take place on Saturday 21st May 2022 at The Warren House, Woodham Walter, CM9 6RW from 12 noon, and those wishing to attend should contact Mark Durham by email at celebratejohndurham@gmail.com.
