Exclusive: SECOND MOVIE FOR #BRAINTREE ACTRESS

15 Jul Exclusive: SECOND MOVIE FOR #BRAINTREE ACTRESS

Rebecca Watts from Braintree is about to start work on her second feature film, Fight the Eternal Evil, just two weeks after the release of her first film, Demons, on DVD and Blu-ray.

Both films come from Suffolk-based Martello Films run by writer/director Michael Munn who said, “We were lucky to find Rebecca for the role in Demons after the first actress had to pull out. I found Rebecca through the Starnow casting website.”

In Demons Rebecca plays a bride-to-be on her way to her hen party with three friends who break down and end up spending the night at the only house for miles where a reclusive writer lives, played by Paul Vella of Belchamp St Paul. There, during the long dark night, the girls find themselves coming face to face with their greatest fears.

Rebecca was one of a number of aspiring actors who accepted a role in Demons for a share of the profits from the guaranteed release of the film on DVD and Blu-ray. “We make films specifically for viewing in the home by releasing them on ourselves on DVD and Blu-ray” explains Michael Munn. “This way we get to make movies and get them released, and in so doing we offer actors a springboard who might otherwise never get the chance.”

Rebecca Watts trained in theatre at the University of Ulster and West Virginia University, with a more recent focus on musical theatre. She is part of Springers AODS in Chelmsford.

For her role in Demons, Rebecca braved cold nights running down lanes in Essex and through woods in Suffolk wearing nightclothes and a top coat in scenes depicting her attempted escape from whatever it she believes wants to kill her.  “It was freezing,” said Michael Munn, “but Rebecca performed with consummate professionalism. She was a joy to work with so when I was casting Fight the Eternal Evil I had no hesitation in casting her, and this time she gets to play the villain, and we’re shooting in July so there’ll be no frost.”

Rebecca didn’t hesitate in accepting her role in Fight the Eternal Evil even before the screenplay had been completed. “Michael and the people at Martello believed in me and gave me my first leading role in a feature film,” said Rebecca, “and loved working with them and especially loved the idea of playing a villain.”
