10 Aug Ex-Border Force chief claims he was de-banked by NatWest for appearing on GB News
NATWEST bank closed the account of a senior former Border Force official for appearing on GB News, it has been claimed.
Kevin Saunders said NatWest told him it was closing his account because his mortgage had ended – but he said he paid it off ten years ago.
Mr Saunders, formerly Border Force’s chief Immigration officer in Calais and Dunkirk, told GB News he never had issues until he got a letter “out of the blue” last week.
He said: “I had no problems at all. And I wonder if that is the problem. They’re not making money out of me, because my account is in credit and they pay me a small amount of interest every month because the account’s in credit.
“So, what happened was I just got a letter totally out of the blue last Thursday saying basically ‘we’re closing your account, you’ve got six months to find another account’. Okay, thank you very much. Goodbye.”
He told Nigel Farage: “I was absolutely gobsmacked when this came through…I remembered you and I thought ‘well, hang on’, the only difference is that I do appear every now and again on GB News.
“I wonder if it’s the same thing. I wonder if the bank don’t like me very much.
“I was shocked. I’m not another huge media star like yourself. I haven’t got lots of money stuck in the bank. Why pick on the small man?”
He added: “I’ve been with that particular group for a long, long time, a very long time and they are quite correct, my mortgage has come to an end, but it came to an end over ten years ago.
“They’ve got big problems if they’ve got delays going on for ten years.”
NatWest said in a statement that it has contacted some customers to inform them of their decision to withdraw some “legacy products”.
