Essex Tourism Champions celebrated at Visit Essex Summer Party

Visit Essex has announced the winners of its 2026 Tourism Superstar competition.

The annual awards recognise exceptional people who create outstanding visitor experiences.

The winners were revealed at the Visit Essex Summer Party on 30 June. It took place at Bardfield Vineyard, Great Bardfield. The event brought together tourism and hospitality businesses to celebrate achievements.

This year’s Tourism Superstar competition attracted nominations from a wide range of attractions. The awards highlight the dedication, passion and innovation of those working in Essex’s visitor economy.

The 2026 Tourism Superstar winners are:
• 1st Place – Ed Welch, Audley End House & Gardens
• Runner ups – Tim Sykes, Adventure Island and Sam Edwards, The Three Horseshoes, Fordham

Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Planning and Heritage at Essex County Council, Councillor Jeff Bray said: “Essex’s tourism industry is full of passionate and dedicated people. Each of them creates memorable experiences for visitors every day. The Tourism Superstar competition shines a light on those making a difference.

“I would like to congratulate Ed, Tim and Sam, who have each demonstrated exceptional dedication to their roles. They have made outstanding contributions to Essex’s visitor economy. All are fantastic ambassadors for our county and truly deserving winners.”

The winner, Ed Welch, is a Volunteer Manager at Audley End House & Gardens. Ed manages over 300 volunteers and has helped make Audley End more accessible and inclusive to local communities. He has also supported partnerships with schools, charities and community groups.

Runner-up, Tim Sykes, is a Workshop Manager at Adventure Island in Southend. He secured his win after almost three decades of service at the attraction. Tim is known for his engineering skills, support to colleagues and dedication to maintaining the site.

Fellow runner-up is Sam Edwards, co-owner and General Manager of The Three Horseshoes in Fordham. Since taking ownership of the pub, Sam has grown the business thanks to his support for local producers. He has also driven exceptional staff training and gives a warm welcome.

The Tourism Superstar competition celebrates the people behind Essex’s tourism success. It recognises people who go above and beyond to create standout visitor experiences.

Visit Essex received nominations from across the tourism and hospitality sector. The winners showcase the talent, innovation and dedication that exists throughout the county.
