15 Aug Essex theatre secures exclusive rights to Jesus Christ Superstar
Frinton Summer Theatre, in Tendring, Essex, is the only UK theatre in 2022 to be putting on the award-winning Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice musical
The move is part of a levelling-up agenda which looks to put the coastal Frinton resort on the same cultural footing as London’s West End and major cultural cities Manchester, Edinburgh and Birmingham
The production is a lifelong ambition of Artistic Director Clive Brill, which has been 50 years in the making
The production, which is being staged in the theatre’s big top on Frinton’s Greensward, will involve global stars Tim Rogers (Jesus) and Hugh Maynard (Judas Iscariot), who lives in Colchester, as well as a host of home-grown talent from across Essex and Suffolk.
Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyricist Tim Rice gave the exclusive 2022 rights to Frinton Summer Theatre after years of repeated approaches by enthusiastic Artistic Director Clive Brill, who was determined to secure his own production.
Jesus Christ Superstar will run from Friday, August 19 to Sunday, September 4.
