14 Aug Essex student wins United Nations essay contest

University of Essex student Clara Mayerl has brought more pride to the university after her essay on the role of multilingual ability in fostering global citizenship and cultural understanding won a UN essay contest.
MSc scholar Clara, won the Many Languages, One World Essay Contest for the UN Academic Impact outreach programme.
Clara who got to attend the UN Headquarters said “Being able to stand where the greatest leaders of all time gave speeches that inspired all of us was and will probably stay as one of the best moments of my life.”
Out of more than 2,000 other essays submitted from 170 countries and 57 universities, Clara’s essay was chosen due to her originality, quality of thought and her written and spoken language proficiency.
