Essex County Council is partnering once again with Switch Together, the innovative group-buying initiative designed to make upgrading home heating systems simpler, more affordable, and environmentally friendly. Following the success of the first scheme, the council is encouraging homeowners across the county to register for the second round of heat pump installations. Last year, over 2,200 homeowners in Essex registered, resulting in almost 100 successful installations.
“Essex County Council is proud to be supporting Switch Together. Cutting carbon emissions is key to meeting our environmental goals, but it’s also about helping residents keep warm affordably, now and in the future,” said Cllr Peter Schwier, Cabinet Member for Environment, Waste Reduction and Recycling.
How Switch Together Works
Switch Together enables homeowners to move away from traditional boilers to modern, energy-efficient heat pumps. By pooling demand, residents benefit from competitive installer bids, cutting costs while ensuring high-quality installations.

Why Heat Pumps?
● Efficient & Cost-Effective: Optimised energy use reduces bills and increases home comfort.
● Sustainable: Lower reliance on fossil fuels and reduced household carbon emissions.
● Reliable: Consistent indoor temperatures and greater climate control throughout the year.
Why now?
Upfront costs have been one of the main barriers for households considering heat pumps. By using a group-buying approach, Switch Together reduces those costs and removes the complexity of finding a trusted installer.
With the UK committed to reaching net zero by 2050, initiatives like Switch Together are playing a vital role in making sustainable heating accessible for all.
Who Can Join?
The scheme is open to Essex homeowners interested in professional, eco-friendly heating upgrades. Participants may also be eligible for up to £7,500 in government Boiler Upgrade Scheme grants, further reducing installation costs.
