07 Feb Essex Police raise awareness for Sexual Abuse and Sexual Violence Awareness Week
This week, Essex Police are supporting the National Sexual Abuse & Sexual Violence Awareness Week #itsnotok
Yesterday marked the beginning of National Sexual Abuse & Sexual Violence Awareness Week. This year the campaign is headed by the message “it’s not ok” which will be used across various social media platforms. The awareness week runs from February 6-12.
The focus of the message is that all forms of sexual abuse and sexual violence are never acceptable and victims should not have to tolerate it, and do not have to suffer in silence.
Anyone of any age, gender, religious or social background can become a victim of sexual abuse or sexual violence. Essex police takes reports of sexual abuse and sexual violence extremely seriously.
The Sexual Offences Investigation Team (SOIT) is responsible for investigating the majority of offences of Rape and penetrative Sexual Assault that are reported in Essex.
The Child Abuse Investigation Team (CAIT) is responsible for investigating such offences committed against children by family members, extended family, or those in a position of trust/responsibility.
The Police Online Investigation Team (POLIT) is responsible for investigating the most serious of online offences against or relating to children and offenders. As well as providing specialist advice and support to other investigating functions.
