17 Aug ESSEX HOMEBUILDER GOES FOR GOLD WITH WILDLIFE-FRIENDLY GARDEN
A show home garden at five-star housebuilder David Wilson Homes’ Mortimer Place development in Hatfield Peverel has been awarded a gold standard RSPB award for its wildlife-friendly design.
The leading developer has worked with wildlife charity the RSPB to create the nature-friendly gardens at its development on Birkdale Rise.
Receiving a gold standard award is an outstanding achievement, recognising the garden’s contribution to supporting wildlife within the local area and its ability to inspire visitors to the garden to help the nature on their own doorstep as well.
Features of the gardens include bird, bat and bee boxes; as well as a wildlife pond and deadwood habitat that can provide shelter to invertebrates.
David Wilson Homes has partnered with the RSPB since 2014 to show how new homes, and indeed homeowners, can help nature and support wildlife
The agreement was created to look for opportunities to boost natural habitats at David Wilson Homes’ developments across the country, to inspire other housebuilders to do the same, and to influence policymakers.
Annette Hurst, Sales Director at David Wilson Homes Eastern Counties, said: “We have been working with the RSPB for close to 10 years now across our wider business to find opportunities to build homes in a way that benefits both local people and wildlife, and we want to ensure that we’re doing as much as we can to retain and build upon the natural habitat around our developments.
“Hopefully the gardens at Mortimer Place will be teeming with life throughout the seasons and anyone that comes to see them will be able to pick up some great tips for their new home.”
Gardens are a fantastic space for all of the family to enjoy and share as well as the local nature and wildlife.
