Essex Chambers take Chief Constable on tour of Essex businesses

26 Sep Essex Chambers take Chief Constable on tour of Essex businesses

Following on from the launch of the Essex Business Crime Strategic Board, the Chief Executive of Essex Chambers of Commerce, Denise Rossiter, today (24th September) took Essex Police’s next Chief Constable, B J Harrington, on a tour of the county to meet a variety of businesses and hear from them about some of the issues they face.

Two round table discussions were held with Chamber members in Colchester and Southend and he also took time to visit Essex and Suffolk Water who encourage staff to become special constables supporting regular officers.

Mr Harrington officially takes up his new role on 4th October.

Speaking about the tour Denise Rossiter said “One of the key messages that came out of our initial dinner was that the business community have to work together with the Police to tackle crimes against businesses in the county, neither side can address this issue alone. Taking the Chief Constable to meet businesses of all types and sizes is a first step in doing just that and I’m grateful to him for showing an interest in businesses’ concerns and taking time out to listen”

BJ Harrington said: “Essex’s business community is as diverse as the county itself. Whether online or offline, large or small, tech, transport or tourism, crime can have devastating effects on businesses and the people who work for them. I wanted to hear what’s happening in Essex and try to address any concerns, as well as talking about the importance of preventing crime from happening in the first place.”
