01 Apr Essex carpenter with beginner’s luck wins £15,000 in competition
One Essex carpenter had beginner’s luck on his side and is now £15,000 richer after spending just £1.50 on two tickets to enter the lifestyle competition, BOTB.
Jake Godfrey, 20, from Rainham, only started entering the competition the week before, and was left speechless when he received a Facetime call from BOTB’s Christian Williams who revealed the good news.
“I had been following BOTB for a while but had only entered the competition twice,” said Jake. “I couldn’t believe it when I saw Christian calling on the phone.”
Jake, who was on a job when he heard the news, already has plans for how to spend the cash.
“I’ve decided to save some of the money and also pay off my car – a 2012 Vauxhall Corsa,” he said.
Jake also hopes to spend some of his win on a holiday with his girlfriend of two years, Millie, 20, who couldn’t believe her partner’s luck.
“She was really shocked and didn’t believe me at first. We’ve been to Amsterdam together but now we’re thinking of Lanzarote for our first big summer holiday,” said Jake.
“I’ve been before but Millie hasn’t so it’ll be nice to show her around.”
BOTB’s Christian, who surprises winners weekly all over the world, said Jake certainly had luck on his side.
“We love surprising winners and since Jake had only just started entering we definitely caught him off guard,” said Christian.
“I hope he and Millie enjoy their holiday – drinks are definitely on him.”
Since being founded in 1999 by William Hindmarch, BOTB has given away over £30m worth of prizes.
