30 Aug Essex businesses encouraged to get on their bikes @saferessexroads
Workers across Essex are being urged to get on their bike for National Cycle to Work Day next month.
Staff at County Hall will be pedalling their way into work on Wednesday, 14 September as part of three rides along National Cycle Network routes from Chelmer Village, Writtle and Galleywood.
Businesses are being encouraged to pledge to join in the national initiative by encouraging staff to jump on their bike for the day.
Cllr Eddie Johnson, Essex County Council Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport, said: “This is a great opportunity for people across the county who have not considered cycling, to try it out.
“We have put on a number of rides, led by instructors, for staff at County Hall in Chelmsford and would love to see businesses encouraging staff to get on their bikes.
“Cycling to work is a great way to get fit while saving money on travel costs.”
For those who are less confident on two wheels, the Safer Essex Roads Partnership (SERP) provide Bikeability (previously known as ‘cycling proficiency’) courses to help give riders more confidence on the road.
