Entrepreneur Scott Taylor taking shoppers into an alternative reality

16 May Entrepreneur Scott Taylor taking shoppers into an alternative reality

AN ENTREPRENEUR will be taking shoppers into an alternative reality by marketing innovative 360 degree headsets at a major trade show this summer.

Scott Taylor, who lives in Rayleigh, has started a business selling virtual reality headsets after moving on from his previous careers in the City and even working as a holiday rep.

The former Seevic College student puts his success down to his A level studies in IT, media and accountancy, which gave him the skills needed to launch his company, Go Virtual, which imports and sells the sets.

Scott won backing from a Southend businessman and he is taking the headsets to the Ideal Home Show in Manchester next month.

He said the futuristic technology was proving popular and sales were taking off.

He said: “By the end of the year everyone will have one or have used one. ”

The £20 headsets work by slotting a smartphone into the front.

A series of apps, available for free, project videos onto two screens which are viewed through the device – creating a fully immersive 360 degree experience.

After working in the city and as a holiday rep, former Deanes School pupil Scott said he has put the skills he learned while at Seevic, in Thundersley, to good use in starting up his company.

He said: “The accountancy was really helpful.

“I chose to come to Seevic after I visited with my parents. It felt big but they look after individual students – it felt like you were part of something.”

Scott, 32, said his business launch has been helped by a network of friends and contacts he made while studying at Seevic.

He added: “I bump into people now that I have known since college. There is an academic aspect but it also helps you to network and make connections.”
