05 Jul Enfield children get singing masterclass from young star
Pupils from three Enfield schools got to meet and perform in front of singer and reality television star Jacob Fowler in a special event.
Jacob, 21, won the BBC’s Little Mix The Search in 2020 as part of the band Since September and will be going on tour with the famous girl band next year.
He visited Brimsdown Primary School to hear the children sing, give feedback and perform. The event was organised by recruitment company Aquinas Education and pupils from Eastfield Primary School and Prince of Wales Primary School also attended.
Jacob, who started singing when he was nine years old and taught himself how to play piano as a teenager, said it was a joy to hear the children sing.
He said: “I thought the performances were exceptional. It’s so important to have music at school and to encourage children to enjoy it from a young age. All three schools were amazing and it moved me to see music being performed in primary school like this.”
Brimsdown pupil Israa, aged nine, was part of the group who performed on the day. She said: “This was the best day of my life. I loved singing in front of Jacob and getting to meet him. I definitely enjoyed myself!”
Not only can music bring joy, numerous studies have found that it can help development and boost social-emotional, motor, language and academic skills in children.
Dani Lang, headteacher at Brimsdown, said: “The children were so excited to meet Jacob and perform in front of him. They loved hearing him sing and play piano and had lots of questions to ask him at the end, all of which he took the time to answer.”
Dani adds: “Events like this really can inspire the next generation of musicians and we’re incredibly grateful to Jacob for taking part – it meant the world to the children.”
