11 Feb East Anglia spend just £18.50 on their valentine
The average Valentine’s Day spend may be £52.00 but more than half of those in a relationship have admitted spending less than £10.00 with (28%) of these expending nothing at all! Research by Bloom & Wild has found Yorkshire spends the least on Valentine’s Day with the region paying out just £16.00 on a gift. East Anglia have similar views with an average budget of £18.50 and the East Midlands not faring much better at just £24.00.
Those in the North East, however, are less likely to be disappointed as it is home to the most generous gift givers, spending an average of £136.00 on their partner. This is closely followed by lavish shoppers in the capital who splurge with an average of £129.00.
Almost a third (32%) of those surveyed have forgotten to buy their loved-one something special come 14th February, with the worst offenders being 25 – 34-year-olds, more than half of the age bracket (54%) have let the day go by without acknowledgement.
When it comes to romance we are not asking for much, with our preferred spontaneous romantic acts including being surprised with our favourite home-cooked meal (30%), a bunch of flowers (30%) and simply unexpected time spent with our partners (24%).
