13 Aug Drone monitoring migrants crossing Channel in small boats crashes
A DRONE used to monitor migrants in small boats has crashed into the English Channel, GB News can reveal.
Sources also said that a Border Force catamaran used to pick up migrants has broken down.
The developments came after it was revealed that 100,000 migrants have crossed the English Channel in small boats since 2018.
GB News Home and Security Editor Mark White said: “GB News sources out in the middle of the channel today are confirming to us that a Border Force unmanned drone has crashed into the English Channel.
“It may well have sunk, we’re not quite sure where exactly in the Channel but it was out there monitoring those Channel migrants coming across on a very busy day.”
He added: “We’re told that it was one of the drones operating out of Lydd Airport. It’s unfortunate, it’s potentially of course embarrassing.
“It comes on a day when we’re also getting reports of one of the Border Force vessels, Hurricane, that is catamaran that works out in the channel to pick up these channel migrants, has broken down as well.
“It’s a very busy day out there. At least 10 boats so far, potentially 11, now more than 500 people in the Channel, taking advantage of an improvement in weather conditions.
“And we’re told that the RNLI are having to step forward and take a lot of the workload and is trying to pick up these Channel migrants.”
