Diamonds aren’t just a girl’s best friend – 64% of men agree both partners should wear an engagement ring

25 Apr Diamonds aren’t just a girl’s best friend – 64% of men agree both partners should wear an engagement ring

New research by luxury British jeweler, ROX Diamond & Thrills reveals that 64% of men believe both people in the relationship should wear an engagement ring, which is a significant shift in traditional gender roles and expectations surrounding engagements.

The study, which surveyed 2,000 men and women in the UK seeks to uncover how men feel about wearing engagement rings unveiling that there is a growing trend of men believing that they too, should have to wear a ring.

Searches for ‘men’s engagement rings’ have spiked by 85% just in the past month and with celebrities like Ed Sheeran and Michael Bublé opting for one, it’s no surprise attitudes are shifting.

Many men now proudly wear their engagement rings as a symbol of their love and devotion to their significant other, and this trend shows no signs of slowing down.

Furthermore, the study found that a third of men (36%) currently wear or have worn an engagement ring and 41% go as far as saying that if they’re engaged, they should wear an engagement ring at all times.

In many cultures, the engagement ring is often traditionally seen as a symbol of the woman’s commitment to her partner. However, this perception is increasingly being challenged, and the study indicates that nearly 5 in 10 men (47%) disagree with the notion that only women should wear an engagement ring.

A third of women would be hurt if their partner doesn’t wear an engagement ring

For many women, an engagement ring is not just a piece of jewelry, but a powerful symbol of commitment and the promise of a future together with their significant other.

Given the emotional significance of the engagement ring, it is understandable that some women may expect their significant other to share these feelings and place the same level of importance on the tradition.

The research reveals that over a third of women (34%) would even be hurt if their partner refused to wear an engagement ring. One in three women (31%) are taking it up a notch and state that if they’re engaged, men should wear an engagement ring at all times.

Kyron Keogh, Managing Director and Co-founder of ROX comments:

“We’ve seen an attitudinal shift towards engagement rings in the last two years and have received more enquiries from both men and women who are searching for the perfect proposal ring for male partners. Additionally, many of us are looking for more gender-neutral styles of engagement rings that both people in relationships can wear like they do with wedding rings”
