Dementia day care centre set to be opened in Wickford’s Poppy Pavilion

01 Jul Dementia day care centre set to be opened in Wickford’s Poppy Pavilion

A specialist day care centre for people living with dementia is set to open at Wickford Memorial Park’s Poppy Pavilion next month.

Basildon Council has worked with the Carers Choices charity to help them set up the centre which will be known as Silver Birch Wickford.

The centre will provide high quality services for local people living with dementia and their families.

Chairman of the Neighbourhoods and Public Spaces Committee Cllr David Harrison said: “This will be an excellent facility for the benefit of our community in the heart of one of our most popular parks.

“I look forward to seeing it opened and wish them the best of luck for the future.”

Silver Birch Manager Angela Allum added: “We are very excited to finally be providing this service every weekday for those living with Dementia in the borough.

“We work tirelessly to address the needs of both unpaid carers and their beneficiaries in Essex. Our centres provide a full day of cognitive stimulation therapy, socialisation, reminiscence and much more.

“The added bonus is that their care giver has a full day of respite from their caring role. The Poppy Pavilion will be bright, airy and is in a beautifully serene location, perfect for people living with Dementia, proving that there is still a lot to look forward to, fun to be had and new friends to be made.”

Silver Birch Wickford will be opened on Friday 2 August.
