Cruise line continue to aid Essex charity Havens Hospices

18 Dec Cruise line continue to aid Essex charity Havens Hospices

Cruise & Maritime Voyages (CMV) is continuing their charitable support of Havens Hospices in the Essex area. Last Friday, CMV provided a ‘Captain’s Gala Festive Event’ on board Magellan at the London Cruise Terminal in Tilbury for 250 people. Guests enjoyed a five-course dinner, show and overnight stay on board. The company’s UK head office is based in Purfleet, and two weeks ago CMV announced that another two ships would join their expanding fleet. The cruise line is the main operator from the London cruise terminal – Tilbury bringing important business to the area.

The event helped raise over £11,000 meaning that the cruise line has donated more than £22,500 this year alone. Thanks to other generous sponsors, guests were able to take part in an auction and a raffle on the evening. Raffle prizes donated by local businesses included beauty treatments, a week’s holiday, a hotel break, one year’s golf club membership and a meal at 1935 Rooftop Restaurant at the Holiday Inn in Southend. CMV donated a 15-night Canary Islands & Madeira cruise for two people sailing in 2020. Thanks go to Ford Motor Company Stores Team, Stock Brook Manor, Serenity Hair, MB Beauty, The Lion Inn, Stifford Hall Hotel, Experience Days, Essex Glamping and Holiday Inn Southend.

Bob McGowan, Head of Customer Services at CMV said, “Cruise & Maritime Voyages has proudly been supporting Havens Hospices for the past four years, and we would like to thank all our guests who came to the event as without them we would not be able to support such a great charity which is local both to our head office and Tilbury, homeport of our flagship Columbus.”

Proceeds from the event are being donated to Havens Hospices; Little Havens, Fair Havens and the J’s Hospice. They provide palliative nursing and supportive care to adults, young people and children living with complex or incurable conditions across Essex. The charity relies very much on donations in order to carry out their work. 75% of those people who work at Havens Hospices are volunteers.
