03 Jul Crowds Join in Eco Party at Chelmsford Carnival
They got out the bunting and banged the drums – the Chelmsford Carnival returned to the city in 2023 with the sights and sounds of fiesta!
The Chelmsford Carnival took place on Sunday 2 July and over 500 people took part in the parade, which according to event organisers, attracted at least 5000 spectators who lined the city’s streets.
The Chelmsford Carnival is much-loved for its vibrant, colourful and fun-filled celebration through the city, and it did not disappoint! This year it started at Shire Hall and weaved its way through the city centre before heading down Moulsham Street and finishing at Chelmsford Museum, where 2000 people continued the party vibes.
Chelmsford Carnival is one of the first UK carnivals to be an eco-friendly parade with no motorised vehicles taking part. Floats were still central to the carnival and the people of Chelmsford were encouraged to be imaginative and innovative, to use trollies, push chairs, scooters or anything with wheels and motion that could be utilised as a float.
Tony Morrison, creative director of the Chelmsford Festival says: “What an amazing day we had, our biggest parade yet. So great to see so many different communities come together to have fun, share food, laughter and get into that carnival spirit. We look forward to doing it all over again next year”.
Anyone who would like to be involved in next year’s carnival should contact the creative director, Tony Morrison, at [email protected].
The Chelmsford Festival is sponsored by Arts Council England, LiT Fibre, Chelmsford City Culture, Chelmsford For You, with Popeyes, Virgin Active, Zambrero and Ideas Hub contributing to the carnival
