22 Apr COVID-19 booster vaccination programme offers protection for the most vulnerable this spring and summer
People most vulnerable to serious illness from COVID-19 are being offered a spring booster vaccination to top-up their protection from serious illness this spring and summer.
The National Booking System opened on 15 April with vaccinations available from 22 April 2024.
All who are eligible for a COVID-19 vaccination will be offered an appointment between April and June, with those at highest risk being called in first.
Eligible groups can book a vaccine appointment via the NHS website or by calling 119 for free, with parents or carers able to book a Covid-19 vaccination for children under 16 on their behalf. Eligible people aged 16 and over can also use the NHS App to book an appointment. You don’t have to wait for an invitation to book.
Dr Anna Davey, primary care lead for Mid and South Essex Integrated Care Board said, “We know that COVID-19 only causes a mild illness in most people who catch it, however it can still cause life-threatening severe illness in some vulnerable people.
“If you over 75 or if you have a weakened immune system you will be invited to book your spring booster vaccination. It’s important that you take up this offer to maintain your protection against serious illness this spring and summer.
“These vaccines have been updated to boost protection against more recent strains of the virus.”
