Councillors approve tender exercise to move Pitsea pool plan along

18 Feb Councillors approve tender exercise to move Pitsea pool plan along

Plans for a new swimming pool in Pitsea have taken a step forward as councillors agreed a tender exercise to appoint a contractor to draw up designs for the build phase.

A suitable contractor was not found as part of the first tender exercise so councillors on the Neighbourhoods and Public Spaces Committee were asked to approve a new tender exercise to appoint a contractor and Employer’s Agent.

Following the meeting last night (Wednesday 17 February) Vice Chairman of the Committee Councillor Jack Ferguson said: “We remain absolutely committed to progressing with proposals for the development of a swimming pool in Pitsea at Eversley Leisure Centre.

“This is an important project for the people of Pitsea and we must ensure we appoint suitable contractors to carry it out to the highest possible standard.”

Chairman of the Neighbourhoods and Public Spaces Committee Councillor David Harrison added:

“This project has been held up by the ongoing pandemic given the impact it has had on the leisure industry but going out for tender again sends a clear message. We are committed to bringing a pool to Pitsea.”

Eversley leisure centre, owned by Basildon Council and managed by Everyone Active, currently has a 65 station health and fitness suite, workout and spin studios, is used as a base by South Essex Gymnastics Club and has a 3G football pitch.

The outcome of the tender exercise will be discussed at a future meeting of the Neighbourhoods and Public Spaces Committee.
