12 Jun Council to fly the Rainbow Flag ahead of Essex Pride
Basildon Council will be flying the Rainbow Flag, over the Basildon Centre from Friday 14 June to Sunday 16 June, in support of Essex Pride and to show our support for our lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning, intersex (LGBTQi+) community.
Essex Pride is an event for the whole community. Pride inspires everyone to embrace equality, and demonstrates that people from all walks of life throughout Essex, can join in together and celebrate. This year’s event takes place on Saturday 15 June in Central Park, Chelmsford from 12 noon.
Cllr David Burton-Sampson, the Mayor of Basildon, said: “Basildon is a diverse borough where everyone should feel free to be who they are.
“Flying the rainbow flag not only celebrates our diverse community but also sends a powerful message that Basildon is an inclusive borough that welcomes everyone”.
Essex Pride is one of many Pride events in Essex. On 14 September, Basildon Pride will take place in Basildon Town Centre and Gloucester Park . The event is open to everyone of all ages and from all walks of life.
The flag will be raised by the Mayor of Basildon at 12noon on Friday 14 June outside the Basildon Centre and anyone is welcome to come along.
