24 Feb Council plants community orchard on Wickford allotment plot
Basildon Council’s arboriculture team has planted 10 fruit trees on an allotment plot in Wickford to create a community orchard for plot holders.
The apple, pear, plum and green gage trees were planted today (Monday 24 February).
Chairman of the Neighbourhoods and Public Spaces Committee Councillor David Harrison said: “This is an excellent use of an unproductive plot and will be of great benefit to plot holders at Wickford allotments. The trees will provide dessert apples, cooking apples, pears, plums and green gages.”
