31 Aug Community pulls together to help Hoddesdon and Broxbourne foodbank
A TEAM of Hoddesdon opticians have found an amazing way to thank their customers for going to Specsavers while helping to tackle hunger in the local community.
Hoddesdon Specsavers donated over 70 food items to the Broxbourne Foodbank based on the number of reviews the store has received.
These donations will go to those in the area who are finding it hard to make ends meet.
With the sharp increase in the cost of living, many families have begun to feel the squeeze.
Specsavers’ new initiative means the team will donate the same number of food items as they receive customer reviews every month.
Optometry director Nita Nakum will make the monthly deliveries to the foodbank, donating all of the items collected each time.
Good or bad, the team has been encouraging customers to leave a review because the more reviews the store has, the more they will donate.
Whether they come in for their routine check-up, or for more serious concerns, even if it is just for a simple enquiry, Hoddesdon customers have been leaving their reviews of the high street store.
Speaking on her newfound role, Nita said: ‘It is a great honour to drop-off the food items to Broxbourne Foodbank.
‘Anything we can do to help the community will always bring a smile to the team’s faces, big or small.
‘I live in Broxbourne, and I’ve been working in Hoddesdon for nearly two years now. The residents never cease to amaze me with their generosity and charity. It is only right that the team and I do our part to keep this amazing culture going.
‘Unfortunately, for whatever reason, some people will find themselves in a position where they may have to sacrifice food for other bills and costs such as heating and water, so we have taken it upon ourselves to help wherever we can to help with this burden.’
