23 Nov Colchester’s ice slide to help Childline answer more calls this Christmas
Colchester’s highly-anticipated giant ice slide will help raise funds for the NSPCC’s festive campaign this Christmas.
Colchester Events Company, part of Colchester Borough Council, have organised the DemonXtreme Ice Slider in Castle Park, and will be supporting the charity’s Light Up Christmas For Children – a nationwide campaign to raise money for Childline.
Last year 175,000 phone calls and online chats from young people, some who are in desperate need of help, were lost to Childline due to increasing demand for online, evening and night-time counselling.
Light Up Christmas For Children aims to be there for the one in every four children and teenagers that are hanging up or logging off while being held in a queue.
A £4 donation could pay for a counsellor to answer a call and visitors to the Ice Slider can donate to the campaign by buying Little Star badges from the box office.
As well as the slide, there will be a small fun fair and vendors in Castle Park with the event running from December 1 until January 3.
The slide is 35m long and 5m high and open to everyone aged 5+ between 12pm and 8pm weekdays and 10am and 8pm on weekends.
The NSPCC are looking for volunteers to help fundraise at the official opening night on December 2, between 5.30pm and 8.30pm.
Volunteers are also wanted on Sunday December 3 all day with times to suit everybody. To volunteer call Sarah Laffling on 0203 7729461 or email [email protected].
