17 Aug @ColchesterNHSFT to run free “Take Control” workshop in #Colchester
A free “Take Control” workshop will be held in Colchester next month to help build up the confidence of people who have finished treatment for cancer.
It is open to anyone living in north east Essex who has finished treatment within the past five years or who is about to finish treatment.
Run jointly by Colchester Hospital University NHS Foundation Trust and Macmillan Cancer Support, the three-hour workshop will take place on Wednesday 14 September at Colchester General Hospital.
Debbie Farthing, Macmillan Information and Support Manager, who is based at the hospital, said it would be the third Take Control workshop held in Colcheter.
It focuses on practical and emotional skills, self-management techniques and coping strategies to help people move forward and to take control of their life after their treatment has finished.
“I’m very excited because the feedback from the two previous occasions when this course was held in Colchester has been overwhelmingly positive,” said Mrs Farthing.
“Most commonly, people have reported an improvement in their own sense of wellbeing.”
Up to 12 places are available on next month’s course which will be led by two experienced Macmillan volunteers who have both been treated for cancer.
