14 Jun Colchester PR Firm Makes Waves for D-Day Veterans
Award-winning Colchester-based PR consultancy, Big Wave PR, has just returned from a momentous voyage of remembrance with 255 veterans of the Normandy campaign to mark the 75th anniversary of D-Day.
The agency supported the Royal British Legion by gaining celebrity support and entertainment onboard the Fred Olsen Boudicca ship to add to the veteran’s ‘once in a lifetime experience’. Hilary Collins, managing director, Big Wave PR, explains: “We’ve been working with the travel arm of the Royal British Legion for the past five years spreading the word about the legion’s tours of remembrance. However, this year marked a very large anniversary and the Royal British Legion decided to charter a cruise ship to commemorate the 75th anniversary of D-Day. We wanted to give the veterans the best experience ever, and although the emphasis was on remembrance, we wanted to give veterans some light entertainment too.”
Big Wave PR managed to secure the services of star of Strictly Come Dancing, AJ Pritchard, top magician, Colonel Richard Jones, historian Peter Snow and the D-Day Darlings.
Hilary Collins adds: “It was an amazing experience and an absolute honour to support the Royal British Legion. We met numerous D-Day veterans onboard the ship and it was amazing to see them getting up and dancing with AJ, as well as listening intently to Peter Snow on the ‘history of D-Day’, fascinated by Colonel Richard Jones’ tricks, but they all loved the D-Day Darlings!”
