46year old Paul Barnsley from Colchester, Essex, served for 12 years with the Royal Artillery.
He recently completed the Big Battlefield Bike Ride; the flagship fundraising event by the charity Help for Heroes (H4H).
Paul who used the gym at the H4H Recovery Centre in Colchester every day had to adapt his exercise regime though so as not to aggravate an injury from an operation this April.
Paul, who left the army in 2001 after struggling with his mental health, got in contact with the Recovery Centre in Colchester 2 years ago.
He said: “I’m a regular visitor to Chavasse VC House. Initially I saw a Psychological Welfare Advisor who helped me understand my post-traumatic stress but I now attend Activity Tuesdays too. In particular I’ve enjoyed the scale model sessions, especially painting the models”
