01 Jun Colchester charity welcome National Volunteers’ Week
by Matthew Martino
Volunteers at Emmaus Colchester will be thanked for their contribution to mark national Volunteers’ Week. Running between 1-7 June, Volunteers’ Week celebrates the contribution made by the millions of volunteers across the UK.
Emmaus provides a home and meaningful work for 31 people who have experienced homelessness and social exclusion. The charity’s volunteers assist in a variety of roles in the Emmaus High Street shops, warehouses and workshop in Colchester, serving customers and sorting donations – with all proceeds supporting the local charity’s work.
Ding Yi, a volunteer at Emmaus Colchester, has been giving up his time since the beginning of this year said: “Volunteering at Emmaus is part of the reason why my first year in university has been so fantastic. I have made a lot of friends here and learned plenty of new skills. My English is much better than before as well. I am part of a group called Caring for Colchester where helping people is the first priority. I have to say that the opportunity to volunteer with Emmaus Colchester was definitely a good choice, and I love it”.
