24 May Colchester celebrates city status
As we celebrate Her Majesty The Queen’s significant contribution to society, the Essex Chambers of Commerce & Industry (ECCI) are delighted with the news that Colchester has been named as one of the eight new cities for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
Colchester was Britain’s first recorded settlement and has a long and varied history, as well as links with royalty, military and the arts. The newly appointed city had previously bid to become a city in 1992 and 2000, which was withdrawn following public consultation, and also in 2002 and 2012 – but these attempts were unsuccessful.
Denise Rossiter, the CEO of ECCI stated “This will bring a range of economic, reputational and social benefits for the entire region. Gaining city status not only brings a symbol of pride for the local people and businesses, but positive effects in the long-term including opportunities for inward investment that will boost the local economy”.
Exciting times ahead with the ECCI’s on-going commitment to continue supporting businesses and driving the business agenda forward.
