29 Jul Cllr Ray Howard hops on Park and Ride bus to promote Kids Go Free
Children are being given free bus travel to explore Essex this summer after Essex County Council launched its ‘Kids Go Free in August’ Park and Ride promotion.
The promotion allows under 16s, accompanied by an adult, to hop on a Park and Ride bus to Colchester or Chelmsford for free after 9am each day this August.
Today (Thursday) Cllr Ray Howard, Essex County Council Deputy Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport, hopped on a Park and Ride bus in Chelmsford to spread the word.
He said: “I’m delighted to be here today to launch this initiative enabling children to go free on the Park and Ride buses in Colchester and Chelmsford this August.
“We know that the summer holidays can be an expensive time for parents, carers and grandparents.
“That is why we have launched this promotion to help allow families to get out of the house and explore what Colchester and Chelmsford have to offer.
“It could not be simpler to get involved: just drive to one of our conveniently-placed Park and Ride sites, park up, buy an adult ticket (or concessionary fare) then hop on the bus with the kids for a fun day out.
“I am sure many, many families will benefit by taking up this very generous offer.”
A daily ticket costs just £3 with discounts available for weekly and monthly fares. Concessionary pass holders travel free from 9am Monday to Friday and all day Saturdays.
