12 Nov Civic Centre lit up red as Harlow Council pays its tributes to the fallen
Harlow Civic Centre is lit up red this week as Harlow remembers those who lost their lives in the two world wars and other conflicts.
Councillor Russell Perrin, Leader of Harlow Council, said: “The balcony of the Civic Centre is shining red until Monday as we honour and remember the service and sacrifice of all those that have defended our freedoms and protected our way of life. A number of our residents sadly lost their lives so the town will remember and honour them and their families this week during remembrance events.”
Yesterday on Armistice Day Harlow Council held a small service outside the Civic Centre, which included observing two minutes’ silence at 11am. Armistice Day marked the day the First World War ended.
On Sunday 14 November 2021, the annual Remembrance Sunday service organised by Harlow Royal British Legion will be held at the Netteswell Memorial Cross in Harlow Town Park. The service will start at 10.45am. School Lane will be closed to traffic between 10am and 12noon.
In the evening the Harlow Royal British Legion will be holding its Festival of Remembrance at the Playhouse from 7.30pm. Tickets are £6 and available by calling 01279 431945 or visit www.harlowplayhouse.co.uk
