THE government is trying to wave through China’s plans for a super embassy in London and ignoring potential threats to national security, according to the deputy chairman of the Conservative Party.
Matt Vickers told GB News: “Huge concerns about what’s going on here. Keir Starmer seems to lack the backbone to stand up to China. He seems to fail to understand the threat that they pose.
“We had Chinese spies in Parliament, spying on MPs. We’re now allowing these guys to build a super embassy. But moreover, in the decision-making process, the intelligence agencies, the people who have all the nous on this and have the questions and a real outlook on that aren’t really being allowed to submit their views and their questions in that decision-making process. That just seems wrong.
“We should be using all the intelligence we’ve got, all the expertise we’ve got to see how big a threat this thing is. Deeply concerning, that those people are not being allowed to feed into this decision-making process.
“I think we’ve got to really look at this. There’s talk of a secret room on the plans next to fibre optic cables.

“This seems like a deeply concerning approach that we aren’t making the best use of all the intelligence available to us in that decision. Very concerned that this thing is just getting waved through.”
On the defection of Nadhim Zahawi to Reform UK, he said “I’m always disappointed to see a former colleague go, but the reality is, it’s emerged overnight…that this is someone who was begging Kemi for a peerage in recent weeks, and she didn’t give him one.
“He’s a guy who said he feared living in a country run by Nigel Farage. He’s made his own decisions. People at home make their own decisions based on the facts that are available to them about why or why not someone in such a position might want to go.
“I understand all the statements have gone out. It’s there for everybody to look at. As I’ve said, he’s someone who I worked with. I’m not really getting into the gutter slating him, but those facts are out there. People can look at them. They can make their own decisions about his motivations for going.”
