26 Jan Chief Inspector Sam Smith named Basildon District Commander
Chief Inspector Sam Smith returns to Basildon to take over the role of District Commander.
Sam returns to Basildon after 20 years of working in other areas of Essex. She started her first role serving with Essex Police as a Probationer based in Basildon police station before moving on to work on the Force Support Unit as a Firearms Officer. Her career has seen her spend time as a Sergeant on the Territorial Support Team, Inspector at Essex Police College and later progressed to covering the Head of Operations for Essex Police College.
Speaking following her appointment Sam said: “I am delighted to be back policing Basildon; I grew up in Basildon and have strong connections to this area. I want to build on the work that has already been done in relation to our community focus and partnership working.
“There are exciting opportunities to explore and progress with Basildon Council and other partners which will only enhance the service we give to the people who live and work in Basildon.
I have a fantastic team of officers and staff and I want to lead and support them to deliver a quality service across our district.’
Sam fills the boots of T/Chief Inspector Shaun Kane who has taken on a new challenge in Braintree within Essex Police.
