#Chelmsford: School take up library takeover challenge

Organised by the Children’s Commissioner, the Takeover Challenge see young people challenged to take over organisations and gain an insight into how they operate.

Joining the challenge this year, children from Moulsham High School joined the Essex Library Service for the day – taking over the running of Chelmsford Library.

This saw the students work with the team to select and update the young adult booklists and update the libraries web and social media pages.

The students also helped with promotion of the Reading Well project – a book scheme designed by teenagers and health professionals aiming to promote awareness of mental health issues.

Cllr Anne Brown, Cabinet Member at Essex County Council, said: “This is the third year that Essex Libraries has joined the challenge, and it was fantastic to meet some of the students who took part.

“I hope that they not only gained an insight into how the library operates, and the work that we do with other services, such as at the Reading Well project, but also how we are increasingly using digital channels to support and promote the library.”
