Chelmsford catering company to donate thousands of meals to the homeless

22 Dec Chelmsford catering company to donate thousands of meals to the homeless

A leading Essex-based catering and events management company is spreading festive cheer by providing thousands of meals to a homeless charity in Chelmsford.

Catering specialists Seasoned will help tackle rising hunger rates in the county by donating a total of 1,000 meals to Sanctus, a nearby day centre that supports the homeless community and the most vulnerable people in society.

Having already delivered 500 food portions to the charity’s volunteer-ran café, the Seasoned team are determined to donate hundreds more after receiving several Christmas party cancellations.

In the wake of the new Omicron variant of COVID-19, the Government has urged people to remain cautious of the virus, causing multiple businesses to cancel their festive plans.

Colin Sayers, Managing Partner of Seasoned, said: “The indecisive communication from the Government has left our customers unsure whether to proceed with their bookings.

“Our market has been one of the worst hit sectors in the UK and by spreading unclear messaging consumers will be fearful of venturing out.”

He added: “With big parties cancelling their bookings we instantly thought it would be a great idea to donate the additional meals to charity. We hate wasting good food and we’d much rather it ended up with the people who need it the most this Christmas.”

The Seasoned team have also delivered hundreds of meals to ‘Cooking Champions’, a North London community interest charity that provides weekly groceries for families in need and the homeless.

Volunteers at Cooking Champions also provide vulnerable children with free school meals in the holidays and teach young people how to prepare delicious, nutritious meals on a budget.

In total, Seasoned is aiming to donate 2,500 meals to both Sanctus and Cooking Champions by the end of the year.

Emma Hughes, Support Hub Manager at Sanctus, said: “The extra meals will provide sustenance for individuals who often go without and who are regularly forced to choose to go without food to have heating and water.

“Benefit cuts and the pandemic has seen many of our service users worse off and if it was not for the meals and support provided by Sanctus 365 days a year, many would simply go without, be incredibly lonely and overwhelmed by hardship. All support to help us continue to provide our vital service to this vulnerable client group is incredibly appreciated by so many.”
