Celebrating Apprenticeship Week with Stephen Metcalfe MP
This morning Essex Chambers of Commerce and South Essex College hosted a Breakfast Round Table discussion with Apprenticeship Ambassador Stephen Metcalfe MP. It is Stephen’s job to champion the benefits and opportunities that apprenticeships offer and this breakfast gave local businesses the chance to speak to Stephen direct about apprenticeships and how they are working well and not so well for their businesses.
Denise Rossiter Chief Executive, Essex Chambers of Commerce said, “Getting a suitably skilled workforce is something that is vital for businesses. This is why the Government is actively promoting apprenticeships and has brought in the Apprenticeship Levy, introduced T Levels to focus on technical education and introduce Degree Apprenticeships at a higher level still”.
“One of the aims of apprenticeships is to create an agile workforce that will adapt throughout their career to technological advancement. What is needed is for schools and colleges to work closer with businesses to keep the talent pipeline full and ensure a better gender balance in all industries”.
“This is why we are working closely with Angela and her team at South Essex College and other colleges to help bridge the gap between education and business. Today’s event clearly showed the passion that businesses have for not only their current employees but also their employees of the future.”
