Busy Christmas getaway expected at #Stansted

21 Dec Busy Christmas getaway expected at #Stansted

London Stansted is set for what is expected to be one of the busiest Christmas getaways with over 1.2 million passengers forecast to travel through the airport over the festive period.

December 23 is set to be the busiest departure day before Christmas with over 43,000 passengers due to jet out to one of the airport’s 170 destinations.

The busiest overall day will be December 30 when over 80,000 passengers will pass through the terminal. Around 3,000 people are also expected to fly in and out on Christmas Day itself.

Popular destinations include winter sun spots, European cities and Alpine ski resorts. Dublin, Vienna, Milan and the Canary Islands are among the most popular, along with Rome, Barcelona, Cancun and Geneva.

To create some festive cheer around the airport there will be activities taking place in the departure lounge including competitions to win free fast track access and entry to the Escape Lounge. And for the first time passengers passing through the security search area will hear Christmas music to really get them in the Christmas spirit.

Daniel Gallo, Stansted’s Customer Service Director, said:

“With the Christmas getaway now in full swing and any uncertainty of strike action now gone we’re all set to look after the thousands of people jetting out from Stansted before the big day.

“It is forecast to be one of the busiest ever Christmas getaways with over 1.2 million passengers passing through the airport during the holiday period, we would still advise passengers to allow plenty of time for their journey to the airport and prepare for security checks before they leave home to avoid any unnecessary delays.

“Our staff will be working around the clock over the festive period to provide the best possible service to all our passengers to make sure their holidays get off to a stress free and enjoyable start.”
