British Urban Film Festival unveils 2018 line-up featuring Munroe Bergdorf, Tinie Tempah and Dave Johns
The British Urban Film Festival (BUFF, June 4-9) has revealed its summer line-up for 2018.
Opening the festival on 5 June will be writer-director Clare Anyiam-Osigwe’s directorial debut No Shade, about a dark skinned British woman coming to terms with her love hate relationships with men and her skintone.
The film stars Adele Oni in her debut lead role and Kadeem Pearse (Chewing Gum, Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom) and is the first feature to be released by the festival under its’ new BUFF Originals slate. Also screening on the opening night will be Still Breathing, a short film executive produced by UK hip-hop star Tinie Tempah.
Further feature film screenings include Gary Young’s Two Graves (starring Cathy Tyson, Katie Jarvis, Dave Johns, Josh Herdman, Danielle Harold and David Hayman), Rodney P’s Under The Influence (a documentary which chronicles the history of UK hip hop) and Moe Lynch’s Fantastic: The Legacy of Slum Village.
The festival will also host a special afternoon of screenings on Saturday 9 June to mark the 70th anniversary of Windrush (in association with Kush Films).
Further screenings include Never Heard (starring Master P, Robin Givens, Karrueche Tran and Kandi Buruss), Beyond the River from South Africa and the award-winning Indigo from the Netherlands.
The festival will also showcase 3 strands of short films including the Women in Film strand, headlined by Fee starring Munroe Bergdorf. The annual BUFF awards ceremony on Monday 4 June will be headlined by director Amma Asante who’ll be in attendance to receive the festival’s highest honour.
This year, BUFF will be hosted at 6 venues across 6 days in central London including Oxford House in Bethnal Green, the Mile End Genesis Cinema, the Rio Cinema in Dalston, the Curzon Soho cinema, the Black Cultural Archives in Brixton and the Regent Street Cinema.
