The Billericay Soapbox Derby is back and returns to Sun Corner on Sunday, 3rd May 2026. It will be a high-energy day of racing, entertainment, and family fun as usual.
This year, the event will be brought to life again by Spotlight Sound, who are delivering full technical production across the site. From audio and music to professional staging and announcements, they will ensure an immersive, festival-style atmosphere for competitors and spectators alike.
Organised by the Billericay Mayflower Rotary, this charity event is a highlight of the local calendar and regularly attracts crowds of up to 8,000 people. It’s a great, feel-good day, with spectators lining the course to cheer on homemade racing machines tackling ramps, chicanes, and obstacles in a gravity-powered race to the finish.
From pirate ships to superheroes, and even mobile discos, Soapbox Derby is about creativity, performance, and speed. Teams compete for awards including fastest time, best design, and crowd entertainment, creating a unique, wacky race spectacle. The team categories include Corporate, Student, and the ever-popular Wacky Racers.
Colin Campbell, Membership Officer and Second Vice-President of Billericay Mayflower Rotary, said: “This is a real community event that brings people together from across the region. At its heart is fundraising, supporting local charities and people who genuinely need help. On the day, visitors can expect a fantastic atmosphere with racing, live music, food, a bar, classic cars, and plenty to see and do for families.”
The event continues to deliver a strong charitable impact, having raised well over £125,000 for local, national, and international causes, with recent events contributing around £20,000 annually.
