08 Jul Could The Bill stars Beech and Burnside be about to go head to head?
by Dan Bryans
If you loved hit cop show The Bill in the 90s then you’ll remember the show’s two most popular bad boys – Frank Burnside (Chris Ellison) and Don Beech (Billy Murray). Both had their own spin off series and have since appeared in Eastenders and this year crossed swords in Brit crime film We Still Steal The Old Way. But despite sharing a little screen time at Sunhill, the two TV icons never faced off in The Bill.
But they may all be about to change. Producer Jonathan Sothcott (We Still Kill The Old Way) dined with Murray in East London last night and tweeted “so @billyamurray and i would like to make a Burnside vs Beech TV movie. @ellison456 what do you think? #TheBill who would like?”
The reaction was huge with dozens of fans replying with comments like “this is the stuff of dreams”.
Sothcott told us this morning “I was quite overwhelmed with the response but not really surprised as wherever I go with Bill or Chris people ask them about the Bill. I know ITV will never bring it back as a series but maybe there’s a deal to be done for a one-off DVD special. I’m looking into it.”
We await developments with interest.
