05 Jul Big bugs on tour launches at intu Lakeside
New research has revealed that being closer to nature makes you 67 per cent happier, but one in six kids (16 per cent) have not seen a single bug in six months. The study marks the launch of Big bugs on tour, a national exhibition by intu that brings adults and children face-to-face with 12 giant bugs at 13 intu shopping centres nationwide in an effort to reconnect people with nature and make them happier.
Big bugs on tour launches at intu Lakeside on 5 July – 29 July, giving the shoppers of Essex a chance to examine the features of these magnificent creatures without the need for a magnifying glass. Head in centre for a month of family bug fun, collect your Bug Bag from our Customer Lounge to help you find them all and why not hire a Fun BUGgy? These miniature cars are great for keeping the kids smiling whilst you shop. Colchester Zoo, will be bringing the outdoors indoors on 22 July with their Wonderful Wildlife Station. Don’t miss Nickelodeon’s Dora the Explorer, who will be visiting intu Lakeside on 28 July, to meet & greet your little ones.

intu’s initiative is being backed by naturalist Chris Packham and features 12 supersized, indigenous bugs including the honeybee, ladybird, hornet, swallowtail butterfly and the nut weevil. It launches at intu Lakeside today and will be on display until the end of July before spending the next year visiting 12 other intu centres around the country including intu Trafford Centre, intu Metrocentre and intu Braehead.
The campaign to reconnect kids and adults to nature comes as reports show children are now better at identifying Pokemon characters than British wildlife, despite a £10 million pledge from Government to encourage children to get closer to nature.
