Basildon’s ‘Our Streets’ waste and recycling app gets new and improved features

29 May Basildon’s ‘Our Streets’ waste and recycling app gets new and improved features

Following the successful launch of Basildon Council’s ‘Our Street’ waste and recycling app last year a number of upgrades have been made following user feedback.

The app, available on both android and IOS devices, provides residents with a personalised experience and through providing their post code users are able to easily access information on their next collection or get informed about ways they can dispose of waste and recycling items within the borough. Residents can receive live information about any issues with the service and can request online services including ordering additional pink sacks, reporting dumped rubbish or a missed collection at their property. With the release of the latest version of the app they can also set up notifications relating to their properties collection schedule.

Notifications are a new feature within the app and were requested by residents through feedback gathered following the initial release of the app. Users can choose from three different notifications as per their personal preference. These include a notification the day before a collection is due to remind residents to put items out by 7.30am the next day. A notification of collections that only include the collection of glass or, for example, they can choose to only be notified if there is a change to their normal collection schedule as a result of a bank holiday.

Another new feature introduces a new way to make a request for additional pink sacks to be delivered to your property through setting up One-Step Services within the app. Residents can order pink sacks with a simple click and swipe right gesture on the home screen.

Chairman of the Leisure and Environment Committee Councillor Craig Rimmer said: “The app can be used to find information about rubbish and recycling services in your area as well as book special collections or order pink sacks with minimal effort.

“It is designed to help residents save time and have up to the minute information in the palm of their hand.

“It’s about making it easier to do the right thing when looking to dispose of household waste. The development of the app also demonstrates the council’s commitment to listening to feedback and utilising technology to improve the experience of our residents.”

Residents with an android device can download the ‘Our Streets – Basildon’ app from the Google Play Store at play.google.com/store or via the App Store on iPhone apps.apple.com
