#Basildon: Plans for new developments to boost council house building

25 Aug #Basildon: Plans for new developments to boost council house building

Plans have been submitted to Basildon Council for three much-needed housing developments in Basildon and Wickford, as the council’s ambitious new house-building programme gains pace.

The new planning applications, which follow public consultation earlier this year, are a further step in the council’s commitment to improving housing and regenerating local areas. If approved, the latest plans will enable the construction of 30 affordable homes. This will see 20 two-bed homes built at Roundacre, in Lee Chapel North, six in Kershaws Close, Wickford Park, and four in Thackeray Row, Wickford Park.

The development in Roundacre will be on the site of an unused building, which was deteriorating and a potential target for vandalism and anti-social behaviour.

Work started this summer on the first three developments of 11 affordable homes in Laindon and Wickford. These pave the way for a programme of new build schemes to expand availability of housing for families in the borough.

Leader of the Council, Councillor Phil Turner, said: ‘These housing developments are part of the council’s aspirations for better housing which underpins our commitment to our residents The construction of these homes will help to breathe new life into our neighbourhoods and improve the environment for the community .’
