Basildon Mayor represents Billericay at first ever Gavin and Stacey Parkrun

07 Nov Basildon Mayor represents Billericay at first ever Gavin and Stacey Parkrun

The Mayor of Basildon travelled to South Wales to take part in the first ever Gavin and Stacey themed Parkrun.

Billericay Parkrun was cancelled on Saturday (3 November) due to the annual Lake Meadows fireworks display, which prompted runners to instead take part in the free 5km Barry Island event more than 200 miles away.

The two towns are famously linked by Gavin and Stacey, a BBC comedy about the long-distance relationship between an Essex boy and a Welsh girl.

The Mayor, Cllr David Dadds, was one of more than 400 runners who took part. He is currently training for the London Marathon to raise money for St Luke’s Hospice and Cancer Research UK, which are this year being supported by the Mayor of Basildon’s Charity Appeal.

Residents interested in supporting the Mayor of Basildon’s Charity Appeal are invited to contact the Mayor’s Secretary on 01268 206736 or email louise.bresch@basildon.gov.uk
